SOUTH CHESHIRE CONCERT

BAND

Crewe Town Council

Since the formation of the South Cheshire Concert Band in November 2014 we have been fortunate to receive regular support from Crewe Town Council, in the form of grants to help with the purchase of equipment and music.

We have recently been awarded a further grant for the purchase of musical instruments and we are very grateful for this continued support.

Musicians wanted

South Cheshire Concert Band has vacancies for players of woodwind, brass and percussion instruments, who have reached the standard of Associated Board Grade 5 or equivalent. We also have a vacancy for an experienced keyboard player.

If you would like to join us, please contact our secretary via the contact form on our Home page or come along to a rehearsal on a Thursday evening at St Peter's Church Hall.

Don't be shy, come and try it out!

Musical Opportunities.

As part of the wider structure of the Band, we provide opportunities for ensemble playing for Band members.

We have a variety of ensembles which are organised and run by players from the relevant sections. These groups rehearse once a month.

Please contact us for information about these.

13th April 2019

Our first concert of 2019 was held at St Chad's Church in Wybunbury on the evening of Saturday 13th April.

The concert was organised by Barry Simmons, who is a member of our clarinet section. It was very well supported by members of the Church congregation and of the wider local community.

We chose a varied programme of music ranging from classical pieces and pieces based on Church music to popular pieces such as a selection from 'Mary Poppins' and 'Hallelujah' by Leonard Cohen.

Four of our pieces featured soloists from the Band. These were Elizabeth Cuttell ( oboe),

Wendy Wootton ( flute), Mark Wheeler ( clarinet) and Nicola Letts ( alto saxophone).

The concert was brilliantly compered by John Dwyer.

4th May 2019

The Band provided musical entertainment at the 2019 Warmingham Wakes and the event was extremely well supported.

14th  May 2019

The Band's Fanfare Team played at the inauguration of the Mayor of Crewe at the Town Hall under the direction of their leader, Peter Jeeves.

19th December 2019

We held our annual Christmas Concert at St Peter's Community Church Hall in Minshull Vernon on the evening of 19th December.

Again, this event was well supported by members of the local community who enjoyed a varied programme of Christmas music.

Our compere for the evening was the Rev. Philip Goggin, vicar of St Peter's Church and we were very grateful to him for undertaking this role.

26th January 2020.

On Sunday 26th January our Clarinet Choir played at St Peter's Church, Minshull Vernon, during the morning service.

We played voluntaries at the beginning and end of the service and accompanied the choir and congregation during the hymn singing.

25th February 2020

On the evening of 25th February we gave a concert for the Tuesday Club at St Peter's Church Hall, Elworth and the event was very well supported by the members of the Club.

The music was played by a Woodwind Trio, a Brass Ensemble and a Clarinet Choir made up of members and friends of the SCCB.

We played a programme of light classical music to suit a variety of tastes. Each item was very well received by our audience and we have been asked to return to play again on another occasion.

Unfortunately, due to the Covid 19 pandemic there have been no Band performances or rehearsals since March 2020.

However, we will resume our rehearsals as soon as we are able to do so and will give the relevant information here.
